Is there... ermm.. a better UE4 forum?

Hi all,

I’ve recently been getting into UE4 and I’m really enjoying seeing what it can do. I’m having a number of issues though, with rendering/cameras/characters etc, I’ve been on this forum in recent weeks looking for help but not receiving many answers - it’s a really active community but I’m finding help hard to come by. I’d preferably like to find a tutor for just a few hours to pick his/hers brains and to take my scene and iron out some of these issues, though I can’t find one, I’ve contacted Tesla but no reply. Is there another place I can go for help? - polycount is even quieter in the UE4 forum, Cgtalk is too general.

Before you say I just need to practise and consult tutorials, I understand the need for practise but many issues have been after working through tutorials where I can’t find or don’t have the option I need available, I don’t want to waste more hours trying to find out why my imported characters animations will not retarget, or where the option is to set my render sequence to render, and to stop it rendering the bleeding character cam!!

Cheers all,

You can always try the subreddit for UnrealEngine and Discord. The Polycount Slack group is pretty good as well.

A lot of time, too specific or too general problems are very hard to trouble shoot over a forum, it’s hard telling what’s going wrong if you can’t look at a scene yourself. And many people aren’t looking to spend a lot of time answering a bunch of questions.

Try posting here https://forums.unrealengine.com/forumdisplay.php?76-Job-Offerings, might find someone kind enough to lend some of their time
I’ll also assume your familiar with the AnswerHub

And I agree with the post above me

Thanks for the help, I tried the ‘job offering’ forum some time ago and got in touch with Tesla, maybe try it again. The other suggestions I don’t really know so I’ll definitely give them a go.

I understand some things are just too specific for such a piece of software - with Lumion for example I would just post an issue up on the forum and the mods would get back to me within the hour, though Lumion costs £2k!.. which comes with the online help but would be great to find some kind of similar resource

The Unreal Slackers Discord channel is my go to place if I get stuck. Plenty of people prepared to help work through a problem.

Although usually just the act of writing down the question makes me realise I’m being dumb and figure it out anyway

I wish it was that simple!

Use AnswerHub for specific questions, one question per thread. Use the forums to get opinions and more general things.

There are several ways that improve the response to your questions. What helps the most is to clearly show what you have done, in explanation, code snippets and pictures of the assets and Blueprints.

If you don’t take the time to really structure your question, why should someone take the time to really try to answer it? Some people start there question by saying they’ve been pulling their hair out and googling to no avail. That shows zero effort has been put into solving the problem themselves and they just want someone else to do their Game Degree homework for them.

Sure, I get how it works, I use Rhino+3ds Max daily so I know how to learn and ask questions. I don’t think my questions have lacked any kind of structure, I always attach relevant screengrabs. I think UE4 differs a bit than other programs, not that it’s a game engine but more that if you have a mind for programming you’ve a headstart, I’m more a visual artist. I also just don’t have the time to dedicate to it, I’m doing it at work when other work has gone quiet in the hope that it can replace Lumion, but I have to convince the directors by showing what it can do

Salutations ,

Come hang out with us on Discord some time and we’ll see what we can do.
People are generally happy to answer questions there as long as its phrased in a clear way and in the correct section of the chat.
