Is there any programs like trello for game design a outline or is trello best for it? also needing advise for maybe college going to?

I was wondering how to show my game project with ideas and structure visualize it. so i can see it and know what systems to start to finish. also support from community like suggestions without showing overall design plan. I have a idea for a game but would like to know where i can start I plan to use unreal engine since it been great to me. i do have a delayed learning disability, autism so its next to impossible for me to learn in college since im a hands on visual learner by repetitive doing stuff and forgetting later on if i haven’t done it in a while. my whole life i always wanted to be a game designer but im in my 33’s now and i feel i will have to learn on my own since i don’t believe i can meet deadlines in college like projects need to be done in time also i have adhd too. i am very creative like entrepreneur mindset but with getting stuff done its next to impossible for me. i do plan to go to college soon for something but they do have a course for planning to move to a game design college i wanted to go to fullsail since i want ot move to Florida. but i have doubts but i always think of how games work now since i been learning on my own also i want to make my own game i have like a few ideas well maybe more than a few also some of them have never been made before new concept designs new gameplay types. i have a key mind to trying to find a solution to everything and a creativity to solving it that is beyond what i can do. i would like some advise on what to do if anyone can help please thank you. also if there is stuff already out here i do believe it don’t help with my problems since my disables are unique in its own way they effect each other like all 3 of them sometimes.

There are good programs like Miro that can help storyboard your idea together, when I was in university that is what we used to grasp our game essentially visually, we would have one section for the gameplay that would have multiple nested branches inside and you could images, screenshots and a large amount of texts. It is pretty good and then you can compile your goals from the nested branches and every time you go up a branch you have essentially hit a goal!

Let me know if this is what you are looking for. I am barely in the industry and we use Jira boards but I write down and visualize my tasks and just stick them up on my desk wall.

Hi! There are quite a few tools out there that can help you with your predicament, let me walk you through a few I know of:

  • Trello: Its great to create a roadmap for the project in which you can outline stories or epics and what each one of those will contain.
  • Miro: As GoingAFK mentioned, I also used miro a lot to create flowcharts that better explain my game design on a high level and makes it that much easier to understand and digest.
  • Machinations: a bit more complex, this tool allows you to distill entire systems and actually see them working, really cool for things like loot systems or level up systems.
  • Canvas: its an alternative to miro, works in a very similar fashion.
  • Jira/Clickup: Great for tickets and coordination if you are working with a team.
  • Diagrams.net: is another free tool for diagram creations.
  • Google Docs/Slides: don’t underestimate a good design document created and shared through docs and slides, it could save you a lot of headaches early on to create a comprehensive design document/bible for your game.

I hope these helps!
