Is there a way to cleanup your model?

I was working in a model, which was about 80MB in size when saved as .TM locally.

Then I added 8 images, in which I used a skydome or two and a sketchup import of a bus and some regular Twinmotion library assets (normal trees and the like). After saving, the model was 480MB size.

Surprised by this I deleted all instances of the sketchup bus import I made from the scene state and the images I had added. That "only" substracted 150MB, not the 400MB that the model had grown.

Even when I completely delete EVERYTHING in the enitre model, only the starting plane is still there, the model didnt go under 240MB anymore.

I'm figuring the skydome may be lingering about, but I deleted it from all the scenes and images. In a test, I further deleted ALL media as well (I had three presentations and eight images in the 80Mb model I started with) and the model went down to 120MB. So still larger then I had in the beginning.

So how is this possible? What am I missing and could explain what is happening to lower the scene size?

I am worried the big scene size will hinder Twinmotion Cloud performance of my clients, and the model loading time, hence my emphasis on keeping the model lean.

Kind regards,

/Tom

Hello ,

Thank you for posting in the community about how to clean up a model.

  • First thing to do is to get rid of un-used materials from the Gallery view you can select them all and press the delete key. Here is the video showing how to get to the gallery view: https://youtu.be/c-p-yojlNKs
  • Any media using a unique Skydome increases file size my 120mb or so. Also having a Skydome active in the viewport will also increase the file size.
  • Keep in mind at this time Twinmotion Cloud upload process makes textures 2K to minimize the risk of hitting performance issues.
  • Running a resource collector also helps to get the maps and TM file in one place to give you a good estimate of the overall size of the project.

Hope this helps and if you find there is a bug or issue getting the file size down on an empty file, please us know by reporting a bug. You can do so by using the [ contact us ] button from the home page or by following this link: https://twinmotionhelp.epicgames.com/s/case-community-page

Hello

Thank you for your answer. I tried the things you mention here.

I was able to delete the surplus textures, this did very little to the file size though (-2MB on a 480MB size).

Then I deleted all the sketchup geometry I added after the first 80MB file I mentioned before from the scene.

By opening every picture I have in the model and setting the skydome to default, then turn skydome off, then refreshing the picture, I was able to get the file down to "only" 208MB size. As far as I can tell I had 3 skydomes in the model and the two non-default ones were purged from the file this way.

It seems the final "default" Skydome however cannot be removed this way. Even though I have it off in every picture and presentation and also off in the model space, I cannot knock that final 120MB off.

Is there a way to remove the final skydome yet keep the presentations I have in my model alive so I can keep the links for the clients the same?

This final 120MB is an issue, as when I upload the presentation to the TM cloud, it's 99 Mb as opposed to the 57 MB of the file I started with.

I've expericned that heavier files cause frequent loading timeouts and disconnects for me & coleagues when loading the cloud file, hence my focus on keeping files low and omitting skydomes etc.

Kind regards,

I just deleted all media from the 208mb file and that didn't do anything to reduce file size.

Deleting all geometry (empty the scene state) leaves the file at 126MB. so this file is empty of all media and geometry.

Ill make a report for that file.

Kind regards,
