Is there a single complete tutorial with no programming knowledge required?

I’ve been trying ti make a game on and off for a year, between my 50 hours of manual labor. Sure I could learn to code for the next 3 or 4 years and still not be good enough, but I’m already an amateur photoshop artist and CAD modeler, good enough to make the content for the games I want to make.

Ive been here since Unity 4.3 was out, spent over 300 dollars in art packs and game templates, and I haven’t been able to make a single game.

All I want to make are simple games, anything that I can make completely with a little bit of premade scripts, or complete blueprint tutorials. I just want to be able to create and animate my characters and props, drop them in, design my menus and put in my music, and have a finished game, without having to spend the next several years learning how to program and debug and all this ****.

So I ask you, are there finally any tutorial series out there that actually takes me through the process of creating an entire game?

Im trying to make a simple 2d or 2.5d sidescroller action game, just slap on my own homemade characters and animations, a background, my own menus, and have thr coding or blueprints already made, or have a youtube tutorial that shows me every single key on the keyboard I need to type, without skipping a single keystroke or mouse click, to have a finished game.

I have downloaded so many templates, project packs, art packs, animation packs, watched hours of photoshop and modeling videos, watched hours of Unity and UE4 pseudo tutorials. In the end it only shows me the same beginning steps to get started but nothing to take me all the way through.

Either that, or is anyone willing and fully capable of doing the coding and I just pay for and create the art and animation and we equally split the ad revenue in the mobile and possibly steam market?

If you are making a 2d game. I suggest you us Gdevelop, Scirra construct (Classic and 2). They require no programming and are free. Also, If you are looking for someone to hire (Free or paid.) Go to Got skills looking for talent part of the forum. And another thing, You should be able to do all of that in blueprint, No coding. Hope that helps!

P.S. Don’t buy anything until you understand the engine. The engine may not be for you. And also, is it hard for you to learn blueprint?

When you say you don’t want to learn code, does that mean that you don’t want to learn blueprints? There is a very simple concept that I feel anyone wanting to develop a game or application should be familiar with that applies in many way: The more things you customize, have to type in, and have to specify, the better a game will perform, and the more you can do.

By this, I mean that if someone tries to make a variable in game maker, and it doesn’t allow them to specify whether or not it is a float or int, the game/engine already became slower, because now it has to determine what kind of number it is. Harder programming languages are usually faster, and better.

I noticed you were wondering about a full tutorial series for a complete game, that wouldn’t make any sense, here’s why:

Let’s say a CoD game developer decided to make an engine where all you have to do is load up graphics, sounds, and variables, maps, etc… and they had everything else pre-made (shooting, jumping, killing, scoring, game modes, etc…), and they released this engine to the public. Now all of the sudden we have 500 people making slight variations to a CoD game and publishing it, now instead of 1 CoD game getting 20 million sales, 500 games are getting 40,000 each. And now what happens when I get this engine, and don’t like the way that character movement happens? I don’t know how to change it, because I didn’t make it, I don’t even know where to change the code at.

This same concept applies to someone making a tutorial telling you everything you have to do, sure you can follow the tutorial and do exactly what they do, but you will never know everything about how it works. You won’t know what half of the code/nodes even do, you won’t know when it is proper/syntax legal to even re-use that code, because you didn’t figure it out, you didn’t experiment with it, and you didn’t run into all of the problems associated with making it. It’s simply not as simple as having someone hand out the code.

Personally, I suggest you stop buying assets, and just go into UE4, and experiment with blueprints, the things I mentioned are pretty much universal to any language, any engine, and any game. I learned AS3 for about 6 months, and have made several mobile apps and games using my knowledge, I just used my dedication to my advantage. I apologize if any of this sounded harsh.

What languages have you been trying to learn? Why haven’t you been able to make any games?

As far as I know there are just some few ones around -> the best thing is when you just search on youtube and choose the one that you like: e.g ?v=cCl1DHhIYeY

But you will need some basic blueprints experience -> but as bp’s are really easy to use, you wont have any problems with that (otherwise just post your questions here into the forum -> we are always here to help!)

I do want to learn blueprints, but i dont see any of them going over combat, hp, stats, etc and stuff, just basic nonviolent coin collecting jumping games. If there is a comprehensive guide on blueprints, i’d love to read it, anything with lots of details. Doesnt have to be within a specific game but if it goes over how to blueprint each element and what it all means itd be very helpful. I just need something that makes connections, something deeper than “This means off and this means on, and this line connects these nodes.”

Well, once you learn how things all work, it is a piece of cake to make something like what you mentioned. Just randomly spawn coin actors, and when you collide with the, de-spawn them, and increment your coin value. I suggest that rather than looking for how to do something specific, just learn how everything works.

No i meant i dont want to make a mario game. I want to have combo attacks, projectiles, blocking, deflecting. I browsed through the unreal documentation already and it doesnt show any of it at all.

Well yes, this is a low-level engine (which is a good thing), so you won’t be finding any specific tutorials in documentation, but like I said, you just need to play around doing simple things, combo attacks are more advanced.

Well its what Im specifically looking for. If, you know, you guys wanna help, some examples of a basic version of blueprint attack combos and stuff would be nice.

Or lets cut the **** and just tell me, how much would it cost to hire one or two of you to do all the blueprints for my 2D ot 2.5D beat em up? 200, 400, 600? Gimme a quote if anyone is up for it. Along with any money it makes from ads and all that for as long as it lasts, of course.

Well, I suggest you make a few posts in the ‘Blueprint Visual Scripting’ category if you want some help with code, such as attacking. If you just want to hire someone, head over to the ‘Got Skills? Looking for Talent?’ category, they will be able to address your questions more accurately/directly.

combo attacks/block/… -> first of all you need to learn the basics of characters + animations: after that you need a combat system/melee system: https://wiki.unrealengine/Melee Now you have to take a look at some threads + do some stuff by your own:

https://forums.unrealengine/showthread.php?53241-Attack-Combo-system-via-blueprints
https://forums.unrealengine/showthread.php?62528-Using-animation-BP-state-machine-for-implementing-a-combo-system
https://docs.unrealengine/latest/INT/Engine/Animation/IKSetups/index.html (for foot placement, hand placement, blocking)

As a combat system is pretty complex, you wont find any complete step by step tutorials

If you want help, you should calm down. Now breath with me… 1,2,3,4,5… Feel better now? (No one likes answering when you use that tone.)
Just ask if anyone wants to help. tell them you’re price. (Some people even do it for free… Sometimes.)
Also, It’s hard to find tutorials of that kind. You should test you’re limits… push you’re self harder. Think, Experiment, Discover, Create! That’s how good games get made. I hope you get you’re game working!

I am working on a 2D Character Engine that once finished may be helpful. With this you could slap your art on and use the implemented features. One of my goals is that once released, to keep adding new features based on requests.

It won’t make you an entire game, but it’s a start. If you look at my Simple Checkpoint System and Match-3 Blueprint you’ll see that I create tutorials to guide users into creating new features.

Creating a game, even a simple one, can be a timely and complicated thing. But with these tools, you get a good start and have a strong reference if you wish to create your own features.

I dont know how you read my post in your head, but I’m calm. Were you shocked when I said “Let’s cut the ****?” . It means let’s stop beating around the bush, aka let’s stop pretending there’s nothing out there that can give me what I need, and just tell me how much it would cost. Thats what cut the **** means, cut the small talk and “Well, not just anyone can find this stuff… for free” speech and give me a price.

We are adults, we can use “cuss” words, we say cut the **** all the time. Don’t tell me you live on some Amish farm or something… Anyways thanks for the encouragement, I hope the game turns out great too.

, Mortusnyte, and The Britain, everyone else, thanks for the awesome links and insight. I guess I’ll get started on these blueprint links tomorrow after work and see how far that takes me before I start looking for people to do the rest.

I live in LA thank you. (Been all over the place, Including southcentral.) And children actually do come threw here. And just because we are “Adults” doesn’t mean we have to speak like that. It’s actually makes a child out of you. (Not referring to you directly, Anyone is a child you cusses with out care.) And it’s not well recieved by the community in general. It’s really stupid to fight.

I can understand your frustration with the tutorial materials out there currently! The descriptions and manuals are not accessible to complete beginners at all, for the most part.

However, there is a tutorial video series I’ve been plugging on the forums lately (if only out of gratitude, to say the least) that’ll take you from start to finish in programming Pong in UE4; maybe you could check that out?

Even with using Blueprints there will be a ton of programming involved in making the game; what Blueprints does for you is basically gloss over the need for syntax, i.e., you don’t need to fret over missing commas or semicolons. However, using Blueprints still requires understanding the underlying flow of logic in your program, which in essence is programming.

I didn’t swear without care, I swore with intent. When I said let’s cut the ****, I meant it; let’s cut the bull **** about these tutorials and premade templates not existing and just tell me what it costs to get my hands on them or for someone to make them for me. And no, cussing doesn’t make one childish. ******** about cuss words makes you childish. These words are used to express oneself. In my case it was to express the degree to which I understand people are beating around the bush and I’d prefer that we just get straight to the bottom of it instead of dancing around it. If you were a bit more experienced yourself you would already know the purpose of swear words. Seriously you must be some misguided celibate Catholic youth pastor in training or something. If saying **** makes you uncomfortable simply leave this thread and go push your naive views of how adults should behave somewhere else. It’s really stupid and childish to get so bent out of shape of someone cussing. **** **** **** *****. They’re words, they’re real, but they’re not weapons, they exist, they were made for a reason, and they are here to stay. Get used to it or get out. ******** about swear words is exactly the same as complaining about singing, or wearing colored clothing, or dancing, or ANY form of expressing oneself. If you can’t handle that, seriously, leave your current home and go live with some traditional monks that just sit and eat plain white rice and barely speak a word all day long. If all you want to live in is a world of blandness and no individuality, that’s where you should go.

Thanks for mentioning the Pong tutorial. I guess in between doing my modelling I’ll just have all these blueprint playlists playing in the background all the time to get familiar until it’s time for me to start plugging these things in. UE4 isn’t very 2D puppet friendly right now so I gotta convert my stuff to 3D characters first. Well hopefully by the time I get to the combat mechanics I’ll know a little of how to blueprint it.

Lol… what a charmer

Good luck getting help when you act like that…

I have seen better advice come out of a pile of dog refuse. First, You have nothing to attack me with directly. So you infer that I must be a Celibate Catholic priest. Now how does that help you? Are you some Stuck up atheist who is mad at GOD because you were born with you’re posterior stuck in you’re face. And also… YOU HAVE NO RIGHT. No one has a right. :stuck_out_tongue: And why would you compare Cussing to clothing, dancing, singing? Do you only wear clothing that says profanities? Do you only sing profanities? Do you dance like a retarded monkey high on meth?
Or even compare it to anything else? You’re argument has no meat whatsoever. And telling me to get used to it or leave? I’ve been here WAY longer than you have. And you have no right to say otherwise. Also, you and you’re fallacies are all over the place. Maybe you should think before writing? If you do respond. Please give me a real reason as why cussing is okay. In you’re first post you could of said. “Could you guys give me a straight answer? No one is giving me a complete answer?”

P.S. I didn’t cuss now did I?

Keeping an eye on this.
