I’m trying to learn landscapes and can’t seem to figure out how to make a heightmap. I’m using Gaea to make them but in UE5 (5.03 and 5.11) with the Landmass plugin enabled I just get a red exclamation mark at the filename and “Invalid” in the resolution textbox.
I’ve watched many videos on making them in Gaea and it always seems to work fine. A couple of times they don’t cause an apparent error message but the resolution ends up like 128, 80000 and I get a complete mess of a landscape mesh out of it.
I’ve tried saving as PNG/Raw and a bunch of other filetypes with internal settings of raw/proportional and others, I’ve switched all the save options around with no success.
Haven’t create a heightmap with Gaea in a while. However, I don’t remember there being any secret to make it work. I remember that the settings can be a little finicky at times but you should always still get a usable heightmap in the end.
Also don’t forget to create your landscape with the appropriate proportions (as outlined in the video), the link again for reference: Landscape Technical Guide | Unreal Engine 4.27 Documentation (refer to section Recommended Landscape Sizes, but consider reading the other parts as well).
Maybe some screenshots could help or maybe you can get more help in the Gaea discord server?
