Is there a quality difference between an iPhone 12 Mini and other iPhones when using the Live Link Face?

I know from other posts, that all iPhones above iPhone 12 are supported. But does “supported” mean that they are all equal in performance and quality output, or are there differences? And is the iPhone 12 Mini fully functional for recording facial animations for Metahumans, or are there downsides of it being mini?

Thank you so much for your time in advance.

Hi,

The 12 Mini is probably one of the better choices for consumer grade devices if you want to head mount, and it’s great in general.

The depth sensor in the 12 usually produces better results than later models, and any format iPhone 12 has enough oomph for quite a few minutes of capture.

Being a smaller and lighter format it will swing a head mount less than larger devices, which can be a big deal with some mounts.

The only downside compared to larger models might be thermals under prolonged use, and less options for storage, but neither of those to an extent that would affect common take lengths and frequency.
