Is the editor supposed to crash this often?

Hey, I’m a noob when it comes to using UE4. I have a fair bit of experience with Unity but I’ve been wanting to learn UE for a while and have just decided to commit to it lately.

But I feel like the engine crashes nearly every 20 minutes to an hour, I’ve sent in about 5 bug reports to epic already having only been using the engine for less than a whole day.
Am I missing something? I’m using 4.8.1.

The crashes range from, seemingly random, to using basic things like changing a variable in a blueprint, to saving a scene. One project I was working on I ended up just deleting because I couldn’t open it anymore because it would just crash on startup. I found out it was because I used a deprecated function which is fine because it’s at least my own fault, but still, how am I supposed to make a game when there’s so much stopping me from getting any momentum. I really want to learn to utilize the engine because I know you can do amazing things with it, but it’s just been frustrating and the only thing that has been keeping me from making UE4 my primary tool for games.

I think your expectation is set a little to high - this engine is constantly in development, by an extremely large community. And as with any software that has 1,000’s of features, like Unreal - There are bugs and issues.
The engine doesn’t really take that long to open, so learn what you did - and don’t do it again is the easiest way to avoid it.

Side note - you don’t need to delete your project, the Intermediate and uproject are what might have become corrupted - create a new project and copy over your assets directory, open the new uProject and you
should be right back where you left off.

On another side note - I’m on 4.8.1, I’ve yet to crash at all. That was since it was released so…
