Is my Star Wars map publishable, and can I contact Epic Games or Disney ?

According to Epic and Disney’s rules, my map might not be approved.I was wondering if it would be possible to obtain a “license extension” for Star Wars on the UEFN. I created a Star Wars-themed map: Mos-Eisley well before the start of the UEFN x Star Wars collaboration, and according to the current rules of Epic Games and Star Wars, it’s possible my map won’t be approved. The reason is that I recreated the authentic locations of Mos-Eisley to be as faithful as possible to the Star Wars universe using assets I created myself, not those provided by the UEFN.

I would really like to find a way out of this predicament.

I know this request seems far-fetched, but please look at the images and you’ll see that I’m very serious and that my project is solid. I need answers regarding this map. Is my project even eligible? If not, is a license extension possible for this map?And how can I contact Epic or Disney about this ?

Regards.

Epic’s moderation team is terrible. They don’t know what they are doing. Spam and so much else gets through everyday and nothing is done about it so if youre worried about the moderation system flagging this youre probably fine. I mean people use official logos from other companies in their thumbnails, titles, etc. I would just take this post down and publish it when you can and see what happens.

You can switch your already existing island to be a Star Wars by changing the Selected Brand in the Project Settings

HOWEVER you are NOT allowed to import/use any custom star wars assets. Anything you make has to be strictly with the assets Disney has provided inside the Star Wars content folder

But I already know all that; you’re not telling me anything new. I know how to convert a standard island into a branded island, and I’m aware that my map might not get approved.

But that’s precisely the point—it’s absolutely ridiculous! If we have access to the Star Wars license, it’s so we can make Star Wars content—not some cheap, low-budget cartoon knockoff. The Fortnite assets look terrible and clearly fail to capture the essence of the Star Wars universe—take Tatooine, for example.

If they don’t want us creating Star Wars content, then why bother entering into a partnership with Epic Games in the first place?

Furthermore, we’re allowed to recreate landscapes—so why allow landscapes but not buildings? Both are integral parts of a planet’s DNA.

Coruscant is defined by its buildings; Hoth is defined by its landscape.

Why is one prioritized over the other?

We aren’t allowed to create custom assets, yet we are allowed to engage in “kitbashing”—which is completely nonsensical. It amounts to the exact same thing, just with a lot more wasted time and memory usage.

And what exactly is so “disruptive” to the Star Wars brand about us staying faithful to the universe we’re recreating?

It can only be beneficial for the Star Wars universe.

If we aren’t allowed to be faithful to the source material—once again—why even have a partnership at all?

Anyway, as I mentioned, I’m simply looking for information on how to get in touch with Epic Games or Disney.

I know, I know—but continuing to create with a Sword of Damocles hanging over my head is terrible. I’d rather contact Epic Games or Disney.

Hello Q3tum,

Interesting situation. I have a hard time imagining any “license extension” or one-off contracts. Everyone is governed under the brand rules. (It is possible these rules will be changed/modified/clarified in the future)

I think a good example of something that is ‘inspired but not infringing’ is the Fortnite “Sanctuary” prefabs/assets.

Here’s a few things that I’m noticing in your images.

Image 1 - Font above door, I wonder if it is ripped from something or an original creation. Lizard and Mammoth mounts. (These creatures are my biggest concern for infringement)

Image 2 - The drink contraptions behind the bar are an iconic asset that has been provided in collab…

Image 3 - The Millennium Falcon is provided, so making your own version is probably disallowed.

Image 6 (alley) - The tower in the middle is an asset that is provided.

My advice would be to take it into the publishing process as early as possible and (hopefully) be able to address any issues/rejections on a per-asset basis.
