Is Money Really The Reason Why Piracy Is So Popular In India?

I live in Russia. It’s not expensive to buy things(Well, now eur/usd to rub is twice as expensive and buying gadgets, stuff from amazon and etc is twice as expensive, but that happened only a year ago) at all, especially games for PC. In steam we have crazy low prices(Considering current usd->rub rate its funny to convert actually). For example Witcher 3 is $20, Fallout 4 is $33, but it is the highest price you could get in steam(Excluding some special cases). Usually we have AAA games either in $12 - $18 prace range and for indie price tag is something like $5(Excluding tons of .5$-2$ games). But it’s not fair comparison because a year ago these prices in $ were 2 times “higher” due to adequate usd->rub rate so I will give you comparison using average cup of coffee price! Indie game is around 1,3 cups of good coffee or 2 cups of mediocre and it was like this for a years now, no matter what usd->rub rate is.

And this is why I, as a Canadian, will be forever jealous of Russian prices. Yeah we pay in CAD but we pay 25-30% more than Americans. What boggles my mind is we’re in a similar situation with a devalued currency, yet for some reason not only did I have to pay $70 for my Fallout 4 preorder, but a friend had to pay $80 for a physical box.
