Is Metahuman advanced enough to use in games? What's the pipeline for creating assets?

Hi,
My company is looking at Metahuman to replace our character creator. Is it advanced enough to use in games yet? We also were wondering if the Metahuman plugin can be used to create clothing and hair assets or if there is another pipeline we should potentially use.

Thanks in advance!

First of all, the metahuman pipeline is not going to be in-game. You can make it editable at runtime but would require addtional effort.
I’d say one can barely create a good-looking female character like the one on your promotional page with only Metahuman Creator. With a capable hand of different DCCs and some programming, one might be able to create a character looks like this.

Thanks for your info dude, you are helping a lot of google searchers with your post!

Ok so even if the full pipeline isn’t available, is there any way to use the metahuman technology as a character creator? E.g. Maybe a user selecting a ‘base’ meta humans and being able to edit morph targets (things like cheek bone protrusion, hair colour / style etc.)?

Surely you can use metahuman as a basis of character customization system, you can transform cheek bone in AnimBP and switch among groom assets to change hair style.

But as I said before, it would require addtional effort to create the system on your own (and on top of metahuman). You can barely take the functionality provided by metahuman creator to a game. For example, hair material provided along with groom was made for natural hair color like gold red or black/white, you’ll have to modify it if you want to achieve hair dye.

So an accurate answer to your question, I’d say those assets like skeletal meshes, materials and blueprints can help you with an in-game character creator. Meanwhile, since metahuman aims to render human precisely, it’s inevitable to meet glitches if you just try to stretch the face around without knowing how it works.
