Title. With the Official Unity Partnership, is it even worth learning UEFN if Unity will become the new gamechanger for launching games onto the platform… ?
Hi Jos, Welcome to the Forums.
My first question is what sort of latency can be expected. It’s still unclear to me how exactly it will work. (Not quite pixel streaming?)
So as the inner workings come to light I think you’ll be able to better weigh your options.
If it’s streaming than that effectively kills most of UEFN ![]()
Hoping they’re just a platform & not eligible for payouts but then again we have no idea. If that’s the case, guess it’s time to learn Unity.
I’d disagree, a large portion of UEFN is fast paced + competitive, so it’s hard for me to imagine anything with more ‘input layers’/latency superseding that.
If the unity games are treated like fortnite islands and it is similar to loading up a island and instantly playing it then I think UEFN is in trouble. Unity devs, especially the experienced ones seem like they will have an advantage since they do not have the same restrictions we have. Heck you can’t even throw an object and have it treated like a prop after its some in between state. While in unity you could just make it exactly how you want. Granted it will probably take more time but UEFN sometimes feels more like trying to do just enough with the provided devices and tools than actually creating something. I think UEFN has the advantage of using the premade fortnite assets and devices but I think at some point people are going to look for more unique experiences and Unity will be able to provide that.
Although right now its unclear until they post more information about it.
