I appreciate this is a long shot due to the age of the headsets and I am not a dedicated developer, but we have been asked to research the feasibility of producing projects on some PICO G2 4K headsets that a department would like to use and for us to port previous scenarios onto. We usually produce projects for Quest so have successfully set these up for production (and Vive Focus previously).
Despite the PICO site stating that the latest SDK (2.5.0) only supports headsets from the Neo 3 and above I have attempted to build a test scene using the VR template in Unreal 5.2 as per the requirements. I have managed to achieve a seemingly successful build onto the G2 4K – to either copy and install or build directly to the headset itself with no fatal errors, but every time I click to open the app it opens to a black screen and quits after a second or two. When building directly to the headset it appears to attempt to open but with no success.
While containing no fatal errors, I noticed that during the build there are various command lines which state that the PICO SDK failed to initialize. The SDK files are correctly copied into the plug ins folder but I’ve noticed that if I search for PICO in the plug ins screen they show with a tick, but within the standard window they do not display when scrolling, either in the virtual reality or installed sections.
While it officially states that the previous SDK has been taken down, I have also managed to find a previous version on Github (SDK 2.1.2) which included a sample Unreal 4.27 file. I have experimented but during the build using this file/sdk it still states ‘PICO SDK failed to initialize’. The difference is that within this UE file the PICO SDK files show up under installed, yet I still get the failed to initialize error.
I do not have access to the workstation atm so am unable to add any screenshots.
I am wondering whether anyone was still achieving a successful build onto these older headsets.
