Is it safe

Hi guys
How safe is UE4 with downloaded content, from marketplace. Can someone put malicious content in there Marketplace download for eg: c++

Thanks all

It should be safe, I would imagine the marketplace team will be able to detect malicious content during their review process.

Everything is checked before it goes on the marketplace

Everything should be 100% safe. It’s owned by a company we all know exists. (And boy, am I happy they do! ) Just make shure you have a reputable Anti-virus. If you can’t afford one I suggest Avast. If you got money to shell out, I suggest Kaspersky. Because the site and downloads might be safe, but viruses can still hitch a ride into your system! (though the marketplace is safer than most places, so it’s all cool) Wish you well on your UE4 adventures!

i reccomend AVG free or Zen addition

is the installer safe?

Is the engine safe, Will it give me a virus?

Nothing you get from Epic will have a virus and will be completely safe (marketplace content, demos, engine, launcher, etc.) No promises on anything (content, software, etc.) you get from elsewhere on the web however. Use an antivirus for sure when you download stuff from 3rd party sites. Sometimes, even antivirus can’t detect viruses so its probably best to use established sites which a lot of people already use.

You should be fine

Not trusty enough? Read the source code yourself and compile it yourself.
Don’t try to do the run-on-VM trick because it’s not probably going to run due to miscellaneous hooks and hardware accelerations.

Well, it is absolutely possible. The Epic marketplace team will check the content, true, but a clever virus is not going to ignite instantly anyway. Put a simple time check in the background to make sure it is only firing after actively running for more than 2 hours for example, and that should avoid detection by the marketplace team. It is called a time bomb. Or make it date triggered, like for example ignite on July 4 or something.
