Here is a method I am working on.
Using a vintrip 2 node with timeline.
The sphere moving towards other sphere (pickup) I plan to change into the “palm” or claw of a mechanical arm attached to the drone.
Then as the drone gets close to pickup the arm will move outward towards pickup.
The arm will be just physics handles with moveable mesh components.
So no skeleton to worry about.
