Is It Possible To Alter And Use The Assets From The Templates In Your Own Projects..?

Hello everyone, am an Unreal Engine n00b here!

I’m just wondering if we’re allowed to alter and use the assets from the Templates (for example the Third Person mannequin from the Third Person Template). And if we are, how would I go about doing this…?

I’ve created a Third Person project with that template but all I can find in the Content folder are .uasset files which I can’t open up in Maya. I have Maya, 3DS Max, Mudbox and ZBrush if that helps…?

I quite like the look of the android-style mannequin but would love to be able to change it’s skin if possible.

Many thanks in advance for any help!

Yep, you can use them in any Unreal project

Thanks, I kind of guessed that we were fine using them but can we CHANGE them…? All I can see in the Content folder are uasset files and I can’t open them in any of my 3D modelling programs.

You can pretty much do anything you want with the content provided by Epic as long as you only use the creation with UE4.

Open UE4 and find the asset in the Content Browser (textures, static meshes etc. - you cant export a material since it’s made in UE4) then right click on it and go to Asset Actions -> Export to export a FBX or a texture format to use in another program.

EDIT: scratch that, you can export a material, however it exports to a *.copy file format which is just text. Not sure how useful that would be, but is possible.

Ah, brilliant. Thanks a lot for that, just what I was looking for. Ta!
