is it plausible to do attach a 2d skeletal figure to a 3d model?

I was told we wont have a 2D skeletal system for a while, like january, and I dont know how to even try to do this yet because im really only experienced in photoshop and spriter… but could I not simply attach each body part to a rectangle, like a flattened box man (each rectangle on a different y value), and do my smooth motion tweened animations with it?

So the 3d body would basically be a simple mechanical box looking body, at least the collision boxes would be, so then i attach the individual sprites to each piece, and it looks just like the 2D I drew except now I can do 2D inverse kinematics on it.

If you’re saying what I think you are then it sounds at least plausible. Generally, if you can do it in a 3D program and export it, it will usually work. What you’re talking about is actually not that different from what you do anyway. It’s just a little… odd.
