like turn a 2d environment into a 3d.only level design…
Hello, Bao!
It depends on a few things:
-
Did you buy it from them?
-If you did, was it sold as an asset to be used or did they sell it as a work of art (like a movie, cartoon, or video game)? -
Do you intend to sell your work?
-If not, then you can do whatever you want with it. However, if you plan to sell it, you MUST give credit to them if you did not buy the environment as an asset.
Because you’re recreating their level, it’s not illegal, because you are not selling what they sold; just something that looks like what they sold. HOWEVER, they can sue you if you breach whatever terms have been laid out.
So, to summarize:
If you bought it, but they made it to be used, you have no issue.
If you bought it, and they did NOT make it to be used, you do not need to credit them if you do not sell your project. If you do sell your project, you need to credit them.
I very appreciate your reply @Leomerya12 .
I’m gonna use assets from market place.totally not the same assets.
Just to be clear, did you buy the game below from the Marketplace? (NOT the Epic Games Store!)
If you did, you can do WHATEVER you want.
If you did not:
- As long as you aren’t redoing large parts of the game you are TOTALLY fine. A level/stage or two is no big deal.
- If you are redoing large parts or the entire game, you NEED to give credit (“This game was inspired by ‘x’”, or, “If you liked this game, check out products by ‘x’”)
Keep in mind that if “2)” applies to you, you can technically be sued. But it is VERY unlikely, as long as you don’t recreate the entire game (or large parts of it), and sell it.
Also, amazing work. Seriously. I’ll stick to programming, because art is not my thing.
I bought the game from iOS App Store…do you mean buying it’s copy right? that’s not possible…
I’m bad at designing.I can do nothing without a reference…
I begin to feel so bad…again.I had posted a question and I deleted it before…because I realized it not a good behavior to copy other game’s design…
and I’m gonna delete these pictures again sorry…
I’ll mark your answer.
First off, thanks!
Second, copying levels is a great way to learn how to make your own levels.
All you need to do (if you want to recreate all the levels from the original game) is to contact the company that made the game and ask for permission. Offer to promote their game in some way (usually by giving credit), and they’ll almost always say “yes”.
If they say “no”, find another game, and contact that company.
The only reason this could be a problem is because you plan to sell your work.
Do NOT delete this thread/topic because it can help others who do not know the rules of game distribution.
Thank you,I won’t delete it.the information you provided is helpful
Yes you can, use your own assets and do not advertise it as if you want to make people believe that it is the other game
