My main programs and OS are on my C/SSD for faster access and boot up times, while most everything else is kept on my 2T D drive. I can afford the 20gig space for installing Unreal on my C drive and would like the benefit of accessing such a heavy program more quickly, but prefer not have all of my projects add up and take so much space over time on there since its still relatively small. Is there some down side of keeping my projects and Unreal on two separate drives, such as it would take longer accessing those files on the separate drive instead of the benefit of having the extra speed for Unreal to work in a Solid State drive?
Hi,
From my experience it’s not much diffrence when I keep my project files on separate drive, but haveing UE4 installed on HDD is signifant performance drop.
You can try to have your project created on SSD drive and them manually move it to different location on HDD, downside to that is Unreal launcher won’t see that anymore and you have to run it yourself from folder after that it’s visible again in launcher.
Hope that helped.
This was very helpful, Im going to go ahead and put Unreal on SSD and my projects on the HDD. Thank you.
