Is High Detail Mesh Still Processing or Stalled? (4,671 UAV Images)

Hi,

I’m generating a high detail mesh from 4,671 aligned UAV images of an oil refinery in RealityScan 2.0. The process has been running for 2 days and 13+ hours. The app is responsive (pause/resume works), and resource usage is:

  • RAM: ~75% of 96 GB
  • CPU/GPU: ~1% each
  • Estimated finish time: Stuck since yesterday

Is this normal, or has the process stalled?

Should I:

  1. Let it continue?
  2. Restart?
  3. Split the area into 2–3 parts and process separately?

System:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X
  • RAM: 96 GB
  • GPU: RTX 5080

Thanks for any advice!
JAB

Hello JAB,
you can check the console view, if the model parts are still adding.
If not, the process is probably stuck and I would reset the application.
After reset there is a possibility, that you will be able to continue the meshing process (when you have set the Autosave). You will see that after clicking on the model in re-opened project.

Hi @OndrejTrhan
Thank you very much for your quick reply and support.
I stopped the process this morning and cleaned the SSD, dedicating 1.7 TB of free space exclusively for RealityScan. I’ll start the meshing process again from scratch.
If you have any suggestions for recommended mesh settings for complex industrial sites like oil refineries, I’d be very grateful for your advice.
Best regards
JAB

Hi JAB,
there are not such recommended settings. In most cases the default ones should be OK. Then it depends on the results… But hard to say what to tweak. I suppose it is not necessary to create a High detail model, as in most cases the models are simplified anyway.

Hi @OndrejTrhan
Thank you for your reply.
The UAV model will be combined with SLAM LiDAR data, so I’ll proceed with generating a high detail mesh and see how it performs. I’ll keep you updated on the results.
Thanks again for your support.
Best regards, JAB

Just to notify you, the SLAM LiDAR is not natively supported by RealityScan.

We’ll combine everything in Cyclone 3DR.
