Is Groom broken in 5.4?

I have been using an alembic groom successfully on a bird model in 5.3. After updating to 5.4 the same groom turns into a strange rasterized abomination as soon as I hit the simulate button. Check out the screenshots. The first two show the expected behaviour in UE 5.3, the last two the broken behaviour in 5.4 using the same groom and model. Can anybody explain this strange behaviour to me?

Really nobody has had any weird problems with the UE groom in 5.4?

I’m also experiencing the same issue. Have you resolved it?

I have the same issue. Groom used to work nicely until 5.4. Here is the same setup, in 5.3 and 5.4. Everything falls apart when turn on physics. Note that the bug doesn’t appear on some situation where the character is close to the binding pose.

Yes that looks exactly like my problem. I have converted my groom to hair cards using the new hair card plugin, rendering them with TAA set to 5 in MRQ and that solves my problem by the looks of it. The TAA setting is needed because the hair is simulated like cloth and cloth can’t be rendered with overrides because it is evaluated on every sample not every frame. It may be worth trying it directly on the groom with these TAA settings.

Have you solved this problem

In 5.5 the problem seems to be even worse. It’s not just strange behaviour of the hair strands, but when turning on physics on the groom , it’s behaviour in the character BP goes totally beserk and all over the place. - when attaching a binding asset to the BP UE crashes. Totally broken that thing! Epic? Anybody home?
