I want to get a high resolution mesh of the hull form in the photo. Is this going to be possible with reality Capture?
I have taken hundreds of high resolution photos in several different batches as well as ultra high def video all around the hull form.
I’ve loaded some of these into reality capture and it has produced some 3d generations of the scene (unlike autodesk recap that just failed to do anything) but I’m still a long way from what I’m trying to get out of this. I recognize that I’ll have a lot of work to do but I don’t want to be chasing rabbits.
I used a chalky type of medicated body spray that leaves a white dust and a paint that just washed off in the sink with water. The key is to kill the glossiness and then some random patterns for the program to identify unique pattern of the subject.
one of the sets of photos I shot, I used a sharpie to create a grid. But did not do anything to kill the reflective surfaces. Also the grid was only about every 18 inches.
Steven. I’m not near the mold liner where I can reshoot it until january . And I still have a lot of learning to do with reality capture, so I’m going to keep working forward with the images I have for now. I looked at your stuff on thingiverse. looks like you have the been doing some 3 printing and design. Interested in various design tools/printers/services you use, etc. Where I’m going with this is to be able to design parts/fixtures for the hull form that will be 3d printed/machined to create molds to make those parts in carbon/epoxy, or possibly used directly.
I own a Prusa mk2s and ender 3 3d printers. For modeling organic shapes I use reality capture. For Some of the cases and such I use Solid Works hobby license, depending if I can easily measure, find dimensions online, or find someone else’s cad model. For other things that have a lot of weird curves that I could not easley measure I use the free Fusion 360 license to trace on a picture like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUiIAb1YqeM
