I want to cover most of my 7*7km landscape with tree foliages. However I found my FPS dropping from 120 to 50~70 even when I paint only a few(maybe about 10 trees) nanite-enabled(LOD disabled) trees, so I tried LOD-enabled(tested both nanite enabled/disabled) trees as an alternative. The LOD trees were worse, dropping the FPS down to 10~30 regardless of the LOD level(this time I painted about 3 trees, and tried LOD 0,1,2,3,auto).
I thought that LOD was slightly better than nanite in performance with the cost of reality, but LOD showed much worse performance than nanite.
Am I missing something? I didn’t really change any other settings of my tree asset except for ‘enable nanite’ and ‘LOD level’. I am currently using trees from the ‘Megascans European Hornbeam(Early Access)’ asset in UE5.1(GPU: GTX 1660 SUPER, CPU: i5-10400, RAM: 16GB).
