Is excluding .uprojectdirs files from the Git allowlist intentional?

I’m using a source build of Unreal Engine with Rider and noticed something about the root .gitignore.

I renamed the project in Rider from “Default” to “UnrealEngine”, which renamed Default.uprojectdirs to UnrealEngine.uprojectdirs. Git then reported the original file as deleted, while the replacement was ignored.

The root .gitignore uses an allowlist, but there doesn’t appear to be an exception for .uprojectdirs files. The existing Default.uprojectdirs is already tracked, so Git continues detecting changes to it. However, additional files—or a replacement created by renaming it—are ignored.

Is this intentional? Are custom .uprojectdirs files expected to remain local, or should the allowlist include !*.uprojectdirs?

I understand that git mv or explicitly force-adding the replacement handles the rename. I’m asking about the intended repository policy before proposing a change to the ignore rules.
