Is .Dwg file available for Unreal Studio Now?
We’re adding it as experimental in 4.21 but we haven’t spent efforts on making sure all data is is coming in well organized or structured in Unreal.
What is your main usage for it?
As an architect I ask NOT to focus on a dying mainly 2d-format. Please focus on making it work easier and smoother for revit/rhino as it is so centered on 3ds max atm. I have put a lot of hours into learning how to get something that looks nice into UE4 but having so many issues already with textures, collusion boxes and graphics options that importing DWG seems like a super low priority.
I’m curious what data you would even be able to use in UE4 from AutoCAD. Splines maybe?
It’s going to be 3D geom only, not lines
This would be a very useful addition especially for those of us in engineering we very often come across tools that our clients use that can only support dwg as a 3D export format. We ideally don’t want to have to go through multiple applications to get that data into Unreal. Currently we are using Sketchup to handle the dwg files and then use the plugin to get a datasmith export this results in the trace through to the source being lost and can involve a reasonable amount of rework in Skectchup if the dwg needs to be reimported as a result of a design change.
It would be great if you clarified which DWG entities you expect to be supported.
Has EPIC explored the possibility of allowing the 3D creation workflow to import a DWG plan and creating the 3D model inside UE4 based on that plan?
