Hi All. Not sure if I’m posting in the correct area but will give it a try.
I’ve only been playing around in UEFN for a couple of weeks and have worked out a system now to have chests that spawn whatever items I want rather than the defaults. I was going to have various different chests/cases for different loadouts and picked out some textures from the Fortnite stuff on the PC. I used Fortnite Porting to do this.
Before I head too far down creating a map/game I wanted to know if using these assets obtained this way would breach EPIC’s IP or are we stuck with what UEFN provides us in the Forntite list?
Cheers
Hello,
This is an interesting question. If you used “Fortnite Porting” to export a mesh and use it anywhere other than UEFN, that’s probably some sort of violation. There’s probably even something in the Fortnite EULA about ‘reverse engineering’ or ‘decompiling’ things.
On the other side of the coin. It’s just a temporary limitation that these meshes are tied up inside of devices. (Stemming from how these meshes + systems were implemented in Creative 1.0?)
You won’t find a yes/no answer here. I think any reasonable person at Epic would be ok with use of the meshes, but it’s likely that the method to obtain them is technically some sort of IP breach. Maybe there are other chest meshes out there that would better match the vibe of your island.
Thanks Astrotronic. Yeah it’s unusual I know. You’re right in that they are tied up already in devices and my only use would be in UEFN. It was a quick way to get the chest functionality, but with specific things I wanted spawned. I’ve seen a bunch of videos and posts about extracting the local Fortnite content but haven’t seen anything from EPIC in relation to those methods.
Anyway I guess the real test would be if I get around to having something to publish, I’m sure EPIC will ping me if they see anything that’s not right and I can go from there.
Cheers
