iOS projects build and install, then immediately close when run, no error message given

I’ve been having this issue for a few days now. I got a few projects installed and running, mostly ARKit based projects but now I’ve run into an issue that is stopping me from running anything.

After about the third app I got built and installed (all different projects/experiments) currently only newest is running and the others have stopped working. When I went back to previous projects, built and installed them they have stopped working.

I’ve tried building new provisions and App IDs and I’m having no luck getting anything to work. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong but I’ve exhausted my knowledge and I can’t seem to find any references to this problem.

I’m using UE 4.18.1, an iPad Pro with iOS 11 and I’m building remotely from a PC. Like I say, everything worked fine to begin with, now apps will build and install just fine, but when I try to run them on the iPad I get a brief flash of the splash-screen and then booted straight back to the main menu.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Are you sure that no message? Please attach logs from your device.

Came across such issues, what I’ve done to solve it was simply to delete intermediate, saved, and build folders from the project folder, restarted target device,l restarted editor and it went off. For me the project was always building successfully, but sometimes was crashing right after Unreal iOS splash screen.

Thanks for the help guys I figured it out! I updated the Datasmith beta plugin, when that happened it turned itself on by default in my projects as I opened the editor projects. It doesn’t flag the plugin as being incompatible during the build but once I found the crash logs it was obvious why the projects were failing to start.

They are all working now, it’s still an amateur mistake but at least I don’t have to worry about the labyrinth of iOS developer certificates and permissions being at fault :o

So to reiterate for anyone else with this issue DATASMITH plugin will cause iOS apps to crash on startup

Thanks again for your suggestions, at least I learnt how to get crashlogs off an iOS device because of this haha

I had the same problem, but I didn’t install DATASMITH plugin

Try using this method to get the crash logs off an iOS device. It should help you know where to look at least.

That’d explain a lot. I tried datasmith and though it’s very good for importing it’s not so great for materials, though that’s also our fault for using colour correct inside of max with textures and vray materials are naturally way different to unreal.
