Invoking box tool?

Is there a trick to getting the box tool to engage?
When I want to manually define the reconstruction region, it gives me the box select icon on the mouse but every mouse button zooms, rotates, pans etc. Seemingly at random a box will start (after visiting a menu or something) and then from where ever it started I can re-size the box via the guides. But now that I’m also thinking about using the filter tools (needs points in/out of box) it would be good to be able to know about how you are supposed to make this work (help just talks about the box tool and doesn’t mention any special keypress to get it started)
I’ve tried various combinations of control, shift, alt… What have I missed? (almost certainly a doh moment coming)
Thank you
Jennifer

Hello Jennifer,
please look for ‘Reconstruction Region’ section in the application help (you can access the help via F1 shortcut).
There should be detailed guide how to use this tool.

To create box, just use left mouse button, move cursor, click, move click
If you can’t do it this way, there is probably some other problem.

To overcome this issue, you can also create reconstruction region automatically and then edit it using box widgets.

Hi Kruzma… thanks for the reply…
Left mouse click/drag in a 3d window spins the model…
All the mouse keys seem to spin the model one way or another

On the reconstruction tab you need to open the dropdown box for the reconstruction region and select the manual option.

Now you can click and then move the mouse to draw a rectangle, click again, move mouse to draw the box.

Hope that helps.

Hi Shadowtail!
Thank for the reply…
I’m good on select the option for manual, it even gives me the box cursor icon (two squares near the pointer)
But almost all the time, click or click drag any mouse button rotates the view.

Humm thinking back to early tutorial… is this because I have the navigation style set to autodesk?
(can’t test right now, but maybe that is why I have so many rotating and so few action mouse buttons)

Hello Jennifer,
key to success is not to drag. Just mouse down-mouse up-move…
I tried it even with autodesk navigation style and it worked…

Click no drag?? Ok you got me - I didn’t think of dragging out a box without dragging the pointer…
I’ll give it a try when I’m back in the office next week.
Thank you!

(habits of a lifetime…)

click to start/set point and we’re off!
Thanks everyone… Now for all the other confusing parts of my life

Yep that got me too! Thank god you asked the question!

Is there any way to readjust the box, once it no longer has the focus?
