Instead of screenshots I made a short movie showing that the project is working in real time, in the editor:
Hi, this is my entry for “Better Light Than Never” contest. I did this scene with
Unreal Engine 5. I used generally available assets f. ex. houses are from Evermotion pack, terrain is mostly made of Quixel Megascans 3D models, sky is Ultra Dynamic Sky pack.
I hope you like it!
The idea started when I get the Evermotion 15th birthday free project and thought about putting those small houses in a very different environment. I also wanted to try use those cool Icelandic collection from Megascans and play with Ultra Dynamic Sky. I felt like I want to do something different than everyday archvis work but still keeping the architectural content in it and of course - to play with a light!
First I tried get the typical Icelanding scene with a lot of fog in a daylight but I felt like I’m doing next imitation of „Rebirth” masterpiece, so I left this approach. Instead I get into this idea of making something unusual for archvis, so I played with options in Ultra Dynamic Sky and foud the blood moon mood and stick with it.
The hardest part was the fog for me. I found the tutorial by Digital Mind (UE4 Interactive Fog Tutorial - Part 1: Setup & Basic Material - YouTube) and almost all the fog is using his method.
The next hard part was to use Render Queue to export an mp4 file with a soundtrack (music is made by me) so I had to dig into ffmpeg solution and I’m glad Epic Games forced me to do this as this tool is really helpfull - I don’t have to go to NLE software to get the animation done anymore. Very good for iterations on the project.
