Intro To Level Design

Hi everyone,

Hi i am new to the Unreal Engine i want to create a survival game can anyone help me to create a 3D Level or give me some tips how to start.

Take a look at this tutorial series: ?v=I8WBF4AyAX4&index=1&list=PLZlv_N0_O1gak1_FoAJVrEGiLIploeF3F

  1. learn how to create meshes + textures
  2. learn how to create good materials
  3. try to build a map (the first map that you create wont look good, but you will get better over the time ^^) -> take a look at maps from other games + when you want to create something realistic, just go outside and take a look at it (e.g forest, a part of a city,…)

i already know how to create meshes, textures and simple materials with normal maps. I download a demo version of crazy bump that gives you a normal, displacement, occlusion, specular and diffuse images and it is very easy to use but I want to know how to start creating the level what i do first and what i leave for last

I found this video very helpful to give me an outline of the general workflow for building a map: ?v=XDsJOFyxMnw

The first part covers some UE4 basics, but after 10:30 he goes into the way Epic design their maps.

A lot of it deals with other engines, but the theory and process will still apply.

Also a good read!
