Internal Compiler Error

I started getting some random “Internal Compiler Error” while building unreal.

I have run Memtest multiple times with 0 errors.
I have completely reinstalled windows with a fresh install after wiping the disk.
My drive passed SMART extended self tests and CHKDSK.
The system is stable and everything else runs fine.

Could it be an issue with some of the latest Visual Studio 2022 compiler updates and the latest 5.3?

I just installed some new Samsung 990 Evo SSDs which is the only difference. I’m not sure if there’s some issue specifically with this drive and visual studio? Not sure how that could be possible.

In the past, I’d run into system stability issues with BSODs and OS corruption if I had my RAM or CPU seated badly, and may have had my SSDs seated badly while installing them. I’ve reseated things carefully multiple times now and all the various health tests I mentioned above are passing. The OS is running great with no BSODs or corruption. So far the Unreal build is the only thing givving me issues.

I think it was a hardware issue with my CPU after all. I noticed windows event viewer showed “Correctable” errors like TLB errors and Parity errors which seemed like CPU issues. They tended to coincide with events related to the Visual Studio compiler throwing errors.

I reseated my CPU and it seems to compile the engine with no more internal compiler errors.

It was definitely harder to determine this was an issue that in the past, where my system would constantly BSOD if I had something wrong going on like this. Maybe the newer generation of hardware is better at staying stable despite horrible errors like this. You get what you pay for.
