I’ve just been reading tutorials online and watching videos…slowly its all making sense.
I got me an island… what I did was I loaded the game island…deleated evrything on it except a player start, the water, its post processing box, the weather and time and the skyboxes…everything else is gone.
I got the game running…things were good.
Added Dinos to test the map and make sure you can run around away and towards them…making sure they fit…etc. All worked well.
then one morning…without changing anything (i did add another spawn area on the opposite side of the island) spawns do not spawn anymore. I’ve checked the settings a few times now to the tutorials online…all is right. yet nothing will spawn.
I also get this EXCELLENT issue with the post processing volume for the water. Even if the volume is at its correct height and settings…the entire map is underwater.
this was all fine until Saturday…no matter what I do…both the Post Processing issue and the spawn issue remain.
Did you possibly move the landscape itself down? That would put it below the water plane and volumes and possibly out of the spawn volume as well. That one thing could cause both issues.
That was the first thing I thought…nope. nothing was changed or moved. all I did was save the file the night before.
I have since deleted the post volume so now I can run around on ground with no underwater effects. I will just have to do the ocean volume again.
but the spawns are still not working…I even replaced them
I find that giving your landscape a tag, like “landscape” will allow you to post anything on the ground from any height …
NCP Spawn Manager > last “+” option is default zone floor (or something very close to that, its the last + option)
Default should = Landscape (or whatever the TAG is that you gave your landscape)
Its still on…sigh. I dunno what else to do. I wish I was more experianced using this engine and making mods for ARK
I’m trying to start a mod for my record label, I want to showcase out bands and their music in the mod BUT…I also want to make something kick *** for everyone to enjoy…
right on. I will try it today after work, hopefully this fixes it. I think I have more issues to deal with LOL
I’ve not made any submaps…dunno how to…think I may need to as this mod is going to be gigantic.
I only use subs for landscape, spawns, player spawns, near, far, etc etc. I did not divide my map into a million 1x1 squares. Really the only gain from it is that your machine can run smoother. Development machine, this doesnt effect the client since the game isnt streamed in that way. It loads ALL of it on client side.
My setup is a 64GB RAM duel 980GTX so i have nearly no issues with anything. The more you add, the slower it gets is all.
The moment we added more streaming sublevels we received tons of feedback on how much better the map ran from other players. Hitching and fps in general improved. I recommend it.
Interesting, i will have to see what the ppl on my server say about load times. So far, no issues at all. Now, that maybe because Valhalla is more X Y spread where i went with a Z variation of map building. So far, no complaints about systems being taxed on anything… I will keep an eye/ear out for some issues tho due to not using a billion 1x1 squares lol …
Just wondering - how hard was it to endup splitting the map up ? Was it a drawn out process or was it something simple ?
the problem for me (and its totally my issue) is I do not understand how to setup and work Submaps. Honestly I think I’m in over my head here.
I think I can MAKE the island and the foliage and what not…but I’m going to need help or support to get it ready for prime time.
Maybe when I get to a point that i’m happy with what I’ve built I can ask for a hand.
There are so many things I’m still trying to understand.
Making mountains using height maps.
Making caves
Making Waterfalls (although I think I got this)
Making floating islands.
Because its just me now making a proof of concept for the label…I’m not sure how much of the above I can do on my own with just what the editor provides
I don’t really come on these forums a lot, but anyone with map questions can ask them on our test map discord channel, Discord
We are not professionals, but might have insight to any questions you have.
I’m not sure what you mean by 1 million squares, we have 129 sublevels, for whatever we want to have control over streaming distance, this includes caves, lakes/waterfalls, and especially foliage.
not to hyjack thread, but, sublevels = A1_Near A1_Far (etc etc) correct? What size are those parts? Are they 1x1 sections? Im kinda wondering how one “divides” their already made map up. I mean, i have several sub-levels, map_caves, map_clutter … etc etc
