Installation will not go past 75%

I have been trying to install Unreal Engine 5 for the past few weeks on my Macbook Pro (M2 2022). Since I don’t have enough space on my hard drive, I bought a 256GB USB to install it on. Despite everything, installation ends up stalling at 75%, and the installer either ends up using 90% of the USB space or nothing occurs at all. Installation actually made it to 81% at one point, but my computer died and I had to restart. Even after that point the installer still seems to stop at 75. I’m at my wit’s end, I need this for an internship and I don’t have access to the offline installer.

Hello there @nat_han1!

Welcome to UE! I would say, a USB drive is not going to give you good results here. Aim for a portable SSD, and with greate capacity, closer to 1TB. A single version of UE5, fully compiled with no project whatsoever, already occupies about 150GB.

If you must continue using the USB disk, please make sure you are formating it as APFS or Mac OS Extended. Also, delete any failed install attemps, via purging all data from the disk, and deleting any contents found in the following locations in your MAC:

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Epic
  • /Users/Shared/Epic Games/

The issue was that I was using ExFAT instead of Mac OS Extended. Thank you so much! I also bought a portable SSD for future use.
