Uninstalling the Epic Online Service did not solve the issue for me. Copying the cached assets to the project did not work, because no assets were downloaded (my default folder is C:\ProgramData\Epic\EpicGamesLauncher\VaultCache).
I’m also only using the launcher.
Uninstall Epic Online Services. Everything works afterward.
You may want to make sure you are running it with Admin Priv. I did not have to restart after disabling the Online Service but you want to try that then run as admin? I pray the issue is resolved quickly for you and everyone else.
Noticing that I get this issue only when I am trying to install assets that were from a different epic account than I am currently signed in with. Just fyi
THIS worked, such an easy fix !
Seems like when installing (sometimes) when you choose your own directory, for some reason, the “Vault Cache” is not created. Weird
You saved my life ! Thanks man !!!
EMP-16951 changed to ‘Need More Info’. We’re missing information that would help us determine the source of the issue.
The issue is mostly seen on the cases where users have multiple accounts.
In my case ;
I use one account for my personal projects but also I am a dev in a studio and i use that account for adding assets to their projects.
So when i jumped in to the company account and try to download any asset which company got .
1- go the launcer and in the library find your assets to download.
2- “add to project” option.
3- Launcher will change to “init” mode and stuck there.
Note: I can download anything in my personal account library . So something in background might try to match the account name or something and it can stcuk while that verifing process. But its not good there is no log or feedback what is going on.
Can confirm that uninstalling Epic Online Services worked for me. I’d been having this issue with all content for months. Uninstalled, rebooted Epic, ignored the warning and all works fine.
I had this issue when i was updating an asset that already existed in my project. to fix it, i just renamed the existing folder and then the new version downloaded and installed successfully. Not ideal, but at least it works. removing the epic online services didn’t help in my case.
If it’s still relevant…
Deleting Epic Online Services did not work for me. I was able to fix this issue by setting a new folder for VaultCache. I had to redownload a lot of stuff, but, at least it started to download.
In fact, I’ve reinstalled Online Services after that and everything still works.
Waiting for the Fab Library refresh icon to settle down THEN pressing it again and waiting for it to finish worked for me (this took minutes lol).
I also uninstalled EOS, but I’m not sure if that helped though.
I found this to be the issue for me as well. Non of the above fixes worked for me unfortunately. The only thing that worked was to sign out from the launcher and signing in again. As soon as I signed in again, the assets started downloading.
This is true ans.
I am also experiencing this issue. And unfortunately none of the potential fixes have worked for me.
- I have tried signing out and then back in to the launcher
- Uninstalling Epic Online Services
- Running the Epic Games Store as an administrator
- Deleting \ ExternalActors\ThirdPerson\Maps\ThirdPersonMap\D\SY\Z4CTQ4LG3YV10EKPD0UE8Q.uasset
- Deleting the contents of the vault cache (Mine was already empty)
- Just waiting a really long time and hoping for the best
I also did try restarting my computer at a few different points throughout these. If anyone has anything else to suggest it would be greatly appreciated.
That’s the spinner I was referring to.
What worked for me was going to the asset—let’s say the Black Alder Tree Pack. Then, click the icon next to the Add to Project button.
From there, select Remove Local Content.
After that, you should be able to add the asset back into the project.
same as you guys. i tried all the different methods from above without success.
the only bypass i found for downloading an asset was to use the fab plugin.
now i need to add the android package and i’m stuck with initialization. T_T’’
i do think it has to do with changing of user account.
coming from unity, for VR projects, i can’ t believe everything it’s so complicated
Sorry to hear you’re running into this—I’ve had similar issues before.
One thing that helped me was clearing the Epic Games Launcher’s vault cache entirely and ensuring that no background processes (like EpicWebHelper.exe
) were still running via Task Manager before restarting the launcher. Also, logging out and back into your Epic account can sometimes reset stuck states tied to asset licenses.
If that still doesn’t work, you might try switching the download directory or launching the Epic Games Launcher in administrator mode.
Definitely feels like a bug on the asset deployment side, especially if multiple steps didn’t resolve it. Hope Epic’s support can replicate and patch this soon.
All the best and kind regards,
SFDEMIR
I had the same problem and noticed that my Fab Library Data Cache Directory was on harddrive that doesnt exist anymore on my computer. Chaging the directory fixed the issue. So if you have changed hard drives recently check Download->download settings and there Advanced.
