I don’t understand why it isn’t standard practice for all games on PC to include proper PlayStation button prompts instead of defaulting almost entirely to Xbox icons. In most PC games, even when using a DualSense controller, the on-screen buttons still only show Xbox layouts (A/B/X/Y), and the game simply treats the controller as an Xbox device. This makes the experience less natural and more confusing for players like me who are used to PlayStation controls. Call of Duty is a great example of doing this correctly, since it recognizes my DualSense controller and actually displays the proper PlayStation button icons (✕ ○ △ □), which makes gameplay feel intuitive and consistent. If more games or engines implemented automatic controller glyph switching by default, it would greatly improve accessibility and allow everyone to enjoy games in the way that matches their controller, instead of being locked into Xbox-style prompts.
It’s probably because XBox and generic USB controllers are much easier to setup with the engine. At the moment, to get a PSX controller working properly, you need a plugin. To be fair, it was designed to work with the PSX, not PC ![]()
For AAA games, naturally they push the boat out that bit more, because they need to cover all bases.
Not only a Plugin..
To automatically recognize Dual Sense or Dual Shock.. Or even JoyCons / pro Controller, you need the corresponding SDK from Playstation and/or Nintendo.
What I do as a workaround is, to use different Button-Designs and Input-Remapping of CommonUI, to let the user decide the Button-Icons in Game and how he wants to set up the Keys for specific actions..
Not automated.. maybe not perfect.. but more accessible than nothing.
