Independent landscape layer?

Is there a way to have an independent landscape layer? In other words, a layer that can be painted on that won’t cause the other layers to be normalized. I need a layer that I can paint to that won’t mess with the other layers in the process.

I just found this post as the first link on Google. So, here is the solution I found that worked for my landscape material. Basically, all you need to do is turn on the No Weight Blend option in your LayerInfo.
