I changed the grass size for different areas to solve this.
I have the same issue with gras that disappears in a very short distance in front of the observer and in my case the above solution works not. Tried everything that was mentioned here in this discussion. The only set up that worked was the one “disabling mipmaping”, but as told, we should never do that. So no solution for available.
In the attached screenshot you can clearly cognize the “line” after the gras appears during forward motion or disappears when moving backwards.
The issue here for me was actually that LOD3 in the Kite Demo and Open World static meshes (tree for example) was literally so low poly that it was invisible. Assuming that the LOD2 - LOD3 boundary was 10,000. So what appeared for me to be a foliage culling or spawning issue was actually the invisibility of LOD3.
