Hello, I have picked a game name “AI Roguelite” and at the time of creation, it claimed that my url would be https://store.epicgames.com/p/ai-roguelite. After going through some steps, I realized with dismay that my URL is now designated as https://store.epicgames.com/p/ai-roguelite-714c18. How do I get the original URL without all those added symbols at the end? The URL is not taken by any other app or game (it leads to a not-found page).
Hey there, thanks for your question!
The extra characters on the URL are appended automatically, and are not removable (this is a standard pattern for Epic Games Store pages). We’ll look into making this more clear in the preview URL, that is definitely something we can improve!
Thanks,
Gwynnie
I only posted this because every Epic Games store page I saw had the clean URL with no added characters. However after browsing some more games, I see that some games do have the added characters at the end of the URL, while others don’t.
However, I also saw a newly released game that does not have the added characters at the end of the URL, e.g. https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/the-legend-of-heroes-trails-to-azure , which means that this policy is not universally applied even for new releases.
How come some games get the privilege of having the URL without added characters, and what is the process for applying to have that privilege? There shouldn’t be any uniqueness issue because there is no other game that has the same name.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention - I am working on an answer and will get back to you soon!
Thanks! On the matter of slugs: are DLC slugs editable? They seem to get the URL by concatenating the game’s name + the DLCs name as they were first saved. We created the DLC first with a gamename-DLCsubtitle naming convention and that duplicated the game name in the URLs. Since then we’ve edited the DLC names to just DLCsubtitle but the slugs remained the same.
Great question - all slugs are currently not editable for any offer type, but we are working on changing that. In the meantime, you can reach out to us via a private discussion to request your slug to be changed.
Done. Thanks a lot!
