Hello Epic Community
I was following this staff tutorial which led to my first build error and I need seasoned eyes to help me make sense of what’s happening.
When creating a new C++ class, the editor prompted me to install Visual Studio. My project exists in UE 5.4.4 and the VS install process defaulted to VS version 17.12.4. When opening my project solution in VS and running Local Windows Debugger, the following screenshots show what transpires:
In regard to the plugin errors- I can live without those as I have not used them in my project yet. However, they did work fine within my project when I tested them before this build issue.
I compared my VS workloads to the Setting Up VS page and everything seems to line up, however there is a discrepancy with the Universal Windows Platform development section.
In my version I see a Windows application development which seems similar to me. But I’m not sure if it’s missing something I need. I do also see on the Setup page that version 17.8 is recommended (Default) for UE 5.4. Could this be what I need to address?
Attempting to simply open my project from the Epic Launcher as I always do yields these errors:
I found this YouTube video that helped me make a little bit more sense of what’s what with an Unreal project and related files. However, after deleting the recommended folders and regenerating VS project files, I am still faced with the aforementioned build error(s) and locked out of my project.
Luckily I just backed my project up a day or so before this happened in case of emergency. But I’m hopeful because 99.9% of my Unreal problems so far have been relatively simple fixes. I just don’t know what I don’t know!
If you’ve read this far, thanks for any insight you may have for me.
Cheers!
