Improve the Epic Games Launcher

About 3-4 years ago, I used the Epic Games Launcher for the first time. My impression was that it was sluggish and the login interface was strange. After all this time, these impressions remain unchanged.

  • Is the login interface excessively large? If I want to use a specific login method, I even have to scroll, which is quite unusual for a login screen. This issue is even more pronounced on smaller displays, such as MacBook.

  • The close, maximize, and minimize buttons in the upper right corner have remained unchanged for many years. If there’s a specific reason for using custom buttons, they should at least appear visually consistent. The maximize button in the middle has a different thickness, width, and height compared to the other buttons. Would it be possible to consider using Windows’ standard conventions?

  • UI Consistency, The integration between Unreal Engine and Epic Games feels too rigid. Some Examples

  • There is a noticeable delay when switching tabs. The delay is most noticeable when switching from the Epic Store to Unreal.

These are some of my direct impressions as a user. I primarily use Unreal Engine, and often, I’m reluctant to even open the Epic Games Launcher (which is the case with most of my friends), opting to launch directly from Unreal Engine instead.

It’s hard to imagine that a team with the capabilities to create Unreal Engine would have such an underwhelming experience with their launcher/store software.

You’ve done many things to benefit users, such as the independent game developer program, free games, and free assets. These initiatives attract people to use Unreal Engine, Fab, and the Epic Games Store. However, providing a good user experience is a fundamental principle, not something to be overlooked.

From casual conversations, many people see the Epic Games Store merely as a platform to claim free games. When indie game developers promote their games, they usually share Steam links. (This might not be entirely accurate.)

There’s no text review system, and Fab doesn’t have one either (though I saw it on the roadmap). I want to emphasize that users should be able to judge the validity of reviews. Just one instance of buying a 5-star/4.x-star asset/game that doesn’t meet expectations can render that rating useless in future purchases. Text reviews also serve as a form of lightweight social interaction.

– Just some feedback, I hope it’s not taken as criticism.
