Impossible alignment with repeated wall patterns?

One can see that there’s an alignment from the screenshot with the (false) matches…

yes, but if we had more informations we could maybe give some advices… for example, if the sensitivity was too high, I would try to lower it to try to avoid the false positives… And one of the false positives seems to be on a side of a picture, so maybe go from “low” overlap to “medium” or even “high” could help…

did you try so extreme downscale settings (2, 3,or even 4) for your alignments ? it should eventually blur the pattern and still keep the main features… this is not guaranteed but this is worth a try.

I have tried all sorts of settings, overlap, detector sensitivity, but I have not tried down scaling. (There is also a masking feature which is new from the help menu. I will look into that as well.

This is the only room I am having issues with and for obvious reasons.

Ill keep you posted if there are any other options such as masking that work.

Thanks for the comments

The thought about downscaling struck me too!

The good thing is, it can be done automatically within RC via preview or just adjusting the downsampling value (or downscaling?)…

Downscaling did not work =/ … Ill see what else I can do without editing pictures… RC team? Any suggestions?

May I give it a go? Maybe upload to drop box or google drive

Sure, Ill upload it to google drive later today. This one is a doozy!

Here are a few models I have recently created (Though I want to clean them up a lot so I can optimize them for VR)

Great examples! Cleaning models for vr is something I need more practice at. I saw a guy on YouTube do his room and brought it into vr 1 to 1 it was really cool.

Here are the photos

It may be hard to tell the outline of the room so please use my 1 to 1 recreation of the outline below haha

Sorry, I’ve just gotten some new hardware and have been testing performance. I haven’t forgotten. One thing that I see right off the bat is there is a lot of noise. From the exit data I can see that you are on a tripod with a shutter of a few seconds. Why not use iso 100?

Or hand held with flash - in that tiny space the built-in flash should be amply powerful. Allows you to fire off lots and lots of shots in minimum time.

You gotta watch harsh shadows and flash power vs how close to subjects you are. It becomes too complicated when using a moving light source for photogrammetry.

Yeah, I was threading a fine line here. I dont have a ring flash system or anything and flashed really mess up shiny surfaces sometimes so I was trying to get as much out of the camera as I could. Thats why i bumped up the ISO slightly.

I was hoping to fix some of the contrast and exposure later in photoshop so I did as much as I could there.

Shiny is not good, but otherwise I can only say that flash works fine for me.

If you have at least some light, the shadows won’t be too bad and you can still raise the shadows before putting the images into RC, which I think helps a lot.

Hey Tom, long time no read! You been busy?

I thought you were gone for good…

Let me know if you folks find any good ways to align

I am 3000 km away from this spot and probably have to wait a year until I go back

I’m working it now. What exactly was the results it was giving you? Ghosting walls, multiple components?

I’m looking at the alignment data

I’m calculating depth maps now, but since I’ve never seen the room myself I can’t tell if this is a good result or ghosting.

See thats the problam, The “window” and “door” are not at all aligned. They are aligned to the same plane as the tub.

can you upload the raw files to the same folder? The white balance and exposure  changes from shot to shot. And I can try to remove noise a little better from the raws.
