Importing through Direct Link from Rhino to TwinMotion gives me just an empty space with an invisible point selected.

DirectLink is not working for me. I used the same .3dm file on my friend's laptop with the same version of Rhino (7.24) and TwinMotion (2022.2.3) installed and it works fine. I tried reinstalling my Rhino, TwinMotion and DirectLink and also tried earlier versions of TwinMotion to no avail. All the layers and heirarchy are there but there is no geometry imported to TwinMotion.

The only way i can get my model into TwinMotion is by exporting the geometry as fbx but this is difficult to work with as i have to go back into Rhino to make any edits to the geometry and then do all my TwinMotion work again when i export.

I'm trying to render a project i have due in 5 days so quick help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi ,

I posted this in a reply to you on another thread, but I'll copy and paste my response from there here as well as adding a few more details that might be helpful.

If you could submit a bug report here with a copy of your files for our support team to investigate, that would be very helpful. A copy of the Rhino and Twinmotion files, as well as your Twinmotion.log (Where to find Twinmotion .log file) files would be needed. I don't believe we ever received any bug reports for this particular issue, so we don't have any additional information at this time.

As for some information on this, it sounds like this isn't happening universally, since it worked fine on your friend's computer, so something is going wrong on your computer with the plugin. You can try following the steps in the Datasmith Exporter Plugin Installer Common Errors article to do a complete removal and reinstall of the plugin to see if the issue persists. If it still happens, you can try switching to an older version of the Datasmith plugin, like the 4.27.2 version available at the Twinmotion Datasmith Exporter plugin for Rhino page in the Archived Versions section.

Another thing that might be helpful is instead of using Direct Link to export your model as a .udatasmith file (the Export 3D View button instead of Synchronize), then import the .udatasmith file into Twinmotion. There are some minor workflow differences between this method and Direct Link, but they should achieve the same result and might allow you to view the Rhino model inside Twinmotion. Resyncing a .udatasmith file also preserves changes made in Twinmotion, just like Direct Link, so you should find the process smoother than the FBX import.

Best,

Raghib
