Importing and exporting with maya and unreal

whats going on with this? why can’t I just export say a static mesh into maya , make a small change and import back into unreal without it completely screwing the skeleton and breaking the game? Its like maya immediately names a skin mesh as a bone and adds it to the heiarchy. Why would it do this?

Seconding this, would be great to know. It breaks the joints and bones and combined all LOD levels into 1 single mesh. Its a major pain in the ***
