Imported Meshes Weird With Fracture Mode

Hi all,

I’m having an issue with my destructible meshes created from the Fracture Mode (Chaos Editor). I don’t know if I should call them geometry collection, fracture meshes, or destructible meshes, so I’m just going to refer to them as destructible meshes.

When I create a destructible mesh using the basic objects from the ‘shapes’ dropdown, it works fine initially. If I scale down the cylinder destructible mesh to 0.89 or lower, it does not break. However, I’m trying to use an imported mesh I created (I use Maya for asset creation), a pot, as a destructible object. The image below shows the scale compared to my 6ft man reference (the man is a university supplied fbx).

The pot in the scene is intended for the VR player to be able to break with their weapon, or break on impact after they’ve thrown it. This pot will not break unless I size it to 2.75 or more. Any less than 2.75, the destructible mesh will just not fracture. I also tried this with another object as a test, my sword mesh, and that wont destroy unless it is scaled up by 3.55 or more.

I’m completely stuck with this and would massively appreciate any and all suggestions on possible fixes. The only thing in the fracture mode menu, which I did to all three objects, was Generate: New, and Fracture: Uniform (default settings).

This is the pot FBX if anyone wants to take a look at it: WeTransfer - Send Large Files & Share Photos Online - Up to 2GB Free

Thank you all in advance,
Will

BTW I apologise if this is the wrong category. This one had ‘physics’ under it so I thought this would be most fitting.

I found the issue, the object was too “small”. I found the answer here:
