Models imported into UE 4.20 from an FBX files have file size almost 2 times bigger than they do in UE 4.19 and UE 4.20 takes more time importing the models.
I checked all the import settings, they match. And tried different import settings in 4.20. Nothing affected the file size of uassets. Also checked Engine Preferences. They are the same as in 4.19.
I can’t help you, why this happens, maybe someone can. But: if it is exactly two times bigger, just halfe the import scale? To check the size you could overlap it with a box brush in editor and try to match it.
When you import a window appears. And there:
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.
But my problem is that the file size of uassets in megabytes, the space occupied by them on my hard drive, is almost 2 times bigger in UE 4.20. So i have to use 4.19 to import my models and then migrate them to my 4.20 project. FBX model that I import in 4.19 is 9MB as uasset but in 4.20 the same model (same file) with the same settings is 18MB as uasset.
Would be great if someone can check this and confirm if this is the engine problem or on my side.
It could be your Sample Rate. In UE4.26 mine has been importing some animations at crazy big sample/frame rates of 900 or even 1920. If you tick the “Default Sample Rate” or put in a sensible “Custom Sample Rate” of 30 or 60. It will fix it. My file sizes were about 500 times bigger than they needed to be.
