Import picture to create material

I am trying to create a material, foliage, from a photo. I add new material. I open a jpg through details. I see the photo in TM, in the details dialogue - but blackandwhite - why black and white?

Why does the foliage not get applied to the material "ball" not even in blackand white?

Can anyone - lead me to a guide or tutorial to understand what I do wrong? Please... :-)

(Small explorer window on top of TM just to show photo as it looks....)

Hello.

Cordialement.

Hello.

Technically, that’s not really how you make a material.

Your image should “loop” in order to have a “clean seam” during “duplication”.

Then, we would have to make additional maps (Normal / Roughness, etc.) to have a little more life in the material.

There are plenty of tutorials on the internet that explain the procedure to follow.

There are also explanations in the Twinmotion documentation...I'm too lazy to look (^_-).

That said, with an image of foliage without processing, below is a small jpg that shows how to do it…

Sincerely.

Thank you K for taking the time to reply! I see your jpg- and realise that there are "details" on several places! Oh my... I am such a beginner!

So thanks to your help I have now uploaded the photo on color/details, roughness/details and normal/details.

I am one step further because the material "ball" now has the foliage - but still in black and white.

How do I get it colored? Green. As the photo I am using?

When you refer to a image should "loop" do you mean seamless?

I realize that it will not be super nice with this photo. This is a photo I have taken of a hedge - but it was for me to practise doing my own material and understand the steps - which I apperently don´t. As I need help.

Anyway you are right - I need to search tutorials which I have done- but none describing my problem. I will try to find users guide too.

Again many thanks for reaching out and trying to help me

passe une bonne aprés midi

Hello.

Hello.

Look at the picture and how the brick works. Joints, material, etc. basically “looping” means having a correspondence between left, right, bottom and top so that the copy of the image (its change of scale, etc.) gives the appearance of the brick on the left and not the one on the right.
