Import mask files from different folder and assign automatically?

Hello everyone!

I took photos of an object from two sides (top and bottom) and already created the two separate projects, including the masking files to put them together.

If the “.mask.png” file is in the same folder as the image, then I can just drag everything into RealityCapture and it’ll automatically assign the mask to each image.

If the mask file is in a subfolder and I drag both the original images and the mask folder into RC, then the masks show up as separate files in the 1D view - I didn’t change their names but only the export folder for the masks, as I’ve already got other ones from a previous try (which I also moved into a subfolder).

Is it possible to automatically assign mask files if they are in a different folder?

Hi Simutech21,

when renaming the whole folders, all images need to have the same image names (the file format might differ). The name of the folders then consists of a dot and the layer name. For example:

Images used for alignment and meshing:
…\layers.geometry\DSC_0001.jpg
Images containing a mask:
…\layers.mask\DSC_0001.png

Instead of dots (.) in the folder names, you can also use one of these symbols: _ @ # and !. For example: _texture, @texture, #texture or !texture. .

Thanks for the prompt reply!

I didn’t rename the folder, I simply picked a different one in the export dialog, which created “DSC_0001.jpg.mask.png” files automatically.

What “Export File Naming” do I have to use to get mask files that I can keep in a separate folder, without renaming them manually?

There is no other option just to rename the files if you want to use the folder way.

The easiest way here is to have the generated masks and original images in one folder.
