Hi,
When I use fracture mesh in the destruction editor, and add 2elements/materials under the skeletal mesh component all works as expected. Depth 1 shows outer material and inner material with two elements/materials.
When importing FBX chunks however with outer and Inner ID’s proper assigned in 3dmax. It generates different materials for each chunk? Which is renders it hard to use (if not unusable) as you need to assign materials for each chunk. Seems a bit messy. Maybe I’m missing something or doing something wrong at export?
I’ve tried searching for it but documentation about the Import FBX chunks is limited.
This also goes for setting the chunk params: Support chunk, Do Not Fracture, Do not damage,… how can we batch/mass select our chunks to assign these properties?
I’ll look into this next week and see if I can get any better results or clarification if this can be improved in anyway. I setup a DM this past week with about 60 FBX chunks and just as many materials.
Basically I have a FBX with 19 chunks and they can share one material, We need something to supress creating additional materials per chunk and render them in one batch.
No update to report about at this time. The earliest this would be looked at would be after GDC but there is no definitive ETA for when this will be addressed.
I hate to break your heart on Valentine’s Day, but this one is still backlogged.
There are plans to overhaul the destruction system in the future, unfortunately, it’s just not a priority right now due to other tasks. One day though!
Going through the same issue, too.
Imported an FBX custom mesh, for a Destructible Mesh, and all of the chunks have its own Material ID.
Altogether, it’s over 100 chunks, so I’m wondering if there’s a good solution for this.
