This Question is asked a lot of times but now i finally have solution for this (maybe its already resolved) but i will show you anyway !
This is the problem what i had before :
This is what you have to do :
Open Skeletal Mesh > And Select Sub-Option Skeleton
And Open Anim Asset Details > Transform > Import Rotation !
And Change it whatever you like to get your anim fixed but don’t forget to press Reimport at the top !
When you get the right Rotation for your animation Simply press reimport and save your scene and its Done
I Hope i help you so far this is my first post to UE4 Answerhub !! Cheers

Ohh You great!! Thank u!!
not working with 4.15 linux version. You have a rotation 89 degree. not 90 if you rotate 90 degree. Animations is 180 degree rotated.
A huge thank you from me as well, I’ve wasted hours on this small annoying thing because of some weird Blender exporting bug, and this is the only working solution so far.

Thanks very much. This was a lifesaver and easy to follow (even in Unreal 5).
Can’t thank you enough mate. This solution is still relevant after these years. You are awesome

I have the same probleme in unreal 5. With my character. https://i.gyazo.com/9aeb2b7be19c6ca40ab0e8756c0130d9.mp4
So I try to make a rotation of my skeletal mesh but its dont work. Like you said it more the animation. So I need to export and import it ?
I found a similar way, instead of reimporting animation button up top, I used the Create Asset button right next to it.
So rotate you root bone in the Skeleton Tree to desired location, then:
Create Asset → Create Animation → Current Animation → Preview Mesh
And your new animation should be rotated, create montage off of it.
