I am trying to use image layers when importing images into reality scan 2.0 as described in: Image Layers - RealityScan Help
My images are structured as described in the documentation:
texture images are in images/layers/.texture
geometry images are in images/layers/.geometry
When I import the images and look at any input image, the texture layer is taken from the geometry folder instead of the texture folder. I do import all images at once as described in the documentation.
The image layer feature works fine in reality capture 1.5.
Is there something I do wrong here or is this not working as it should?
Hello Brian
How are you importing the images? Are you using drag & drop or Inputs button?
What are the names of the images in the mentioned folders?
Are the images imported separately (not as layer)? When you check the layer in 2D view, are you able to see it (using TAB key)?
Are you checking this in 1Ds view?
Have you tried to texture your model?
Do you see this option in texture settings?
EDIT: this seems to be a bug, but for the texturing is used the proper layer, only in 1Ds view it is shown wrongly
How are you importing the images?
I do usually drag and drop the images, but I have tried the Input buttons too with the same result.
What are the names of the images in the mentioned folders?
The names of the images are equal in each folder, so each folder has the same set of image names.
Are the images imported separately (not as layer)?
The images are imported as layers.
Are you checking this in 1Ds view?
I do check this on the left side of the view:
Hi Brian,
I was testing this using the B&W texture layer and the resulted texture was black and white.
What are your texture settings? Do you have set the texturing layer properly there?
Are you using texture layer in different color space?
I can change the texture layer in the texture settings to “texture”. Then the 3d modell has the correct texture, but the default seems to be the geometry layer.
Just to be clear: That is not how it should be right? When I define a “texture” layer, I would expect it will be used for texturing. I thought this would be the whole point in defining layers in the first place.
Why would someone want the geometry layer to be used for texturing?
Hello Brian,
that is the same behaviour as in previous versions. For texturing, you need to select the proper image layer manually (basically, you can have more of them, so the geometry layer is set by default and sometimes you have only geometry layer).
as I mentioned in my first post, this is not how reality capture 1.5.1 worked. I just tried it out another time to confirm again. This is how the settings look without changing anything.
The texture layer is selected as default, not the geometry layer.
I understand that you can have many texture layers, but I dont understand why the geometry layer should be the default for texturing. If there is no other layer, sure the geometry layer can be used for texturing, but why when there is a texture layer?
Hi Brian, I was checking this in 1.5.1 version and for me the default setting was Geometry layer. The same in 1.3.2 version. It’s always been like that. Have you provided Make it like a clean install workaround before opening the new project in 1.5.1 version?
I can add it as a feature request for you.
After restart, have you seen the screen to choose the reset option? Are you running RealityCapture from Epic Games Launcher or have you used a direct installation file?
