I’m a beginner at Unreal, and I’m not a programmer in general so bear with me. I’m making a first person game where you make pizzas to order. An NPC places a pizza order, I want to make it so that you get a simple grade based on how quickly and accurately you make the pizza. Eventually you’ll have three or four orders at once that will all have to be tracked.
Right now I have it set up as a simple series of booleans in the BP_FirstPersonCharacter. If you hit the interact key while looking at the dough, it sets a boolean to true and unhides the static mesh of a piece of dough hovering in front of the first person camera, so it looks like you’ve picked it up. When this boolean is true, and you interact with the pizza dough rolling machine, it plays a little animation, sets the boolean to false, and then afterwards it will spit out some flat dough, if you interact with it again, it sets a different boolean to true, so now you’re holding the flattened dough; you then put this in the workspace so it’s ready to get all the toppings. These are all simple interactions, but I’m using a lot of booleans here, and it’s going to get real complicated as I try to introduce a score system and the concept of toppings and multiple orders and stuff.
I’m sure it’s not the best way to do it. I’m thinking maybe it would be better to have each pizza represented as its own actor, and maybe the static mesh changes? I’ve also got all the points to think about, the timer and toppings. I don’t know if data tables need to be involved. This is all stuff that’s tough to find in a tutorial, so I thought I’d ask here for people’s opinions.
